Long time no see...

Hi everyone, sorry I haven't posted in ages, though I have been reading all the posts and leaving comments. I have been waiting for my copy of Avalon to arrive from Amazon, and now after a few impatient emails, it should be arriving this week. Just in time for Spring Break!! Very excited. I have also have been thinking what I would like make, which is hard without the book, but I have been drawn to socks, as they are practical, functional and can also be decorative without taking away from their use. I wanted to design something with a Saxon braid cable in it.

THEN, I saw the new issue of knitty and a sock pattern in it called Clessidra that looks amazing and was totally what I was think of doing with the Saxon braid, so I might knit it.

Unfortunately the only sock yarns I have at the mo' are burgandy or a berry colourway. I don't know if that would be appropriate or not. Some feedback would be wonderful.

Happy Knitting and reading everyone :)

The Clessidra socks are gorgeous. I saw those and amost knitted them myself. I opted for a textured cable vest in a fisherman color. I must be different. LOL!

Berry would be perfect for someone of Morgaine's coloring - especially when she leaves Avalon for court.

I agree with Jennifer - I think the berry would be good. Burgandy would be good too though. I'm thinking of using burgundy for my project.

I think anything you are inspired to kinit is "appropriate", and the colors sound beautiful. Go for it!

The braid is gorgeous. I also think the berry color would be nice - it's a nice spring color that would evoke the "springiness" of Avalon.

Oh man,
How angry are you going to be if I copy you and knit these as well?
I am kicking around a few projects for this KAL/RAL..but those socks are amazing!

Don't be silly, I wouldn't be mad in the slightest :) they are a great pattern and I am altering it slightly anyway for myself, with the saxon cable at the back instead of the hour-glass cable.

I would love to have someone to knit it with and then we can exchange ideas if we run into any problems.

Your swatch is amazing. Obviously not a starter piece. Can you recommend a good project for a first-time cable knitter?

I'm with the other ladies. Burgandy equals berries, madder, and the life blood that flows through all these women characters. I'm certain it will be an amazing pair of socks you knit!

Ctlynn...a good starting project for a first time cable-er is the Irish Hiking Scarf. That is the very first project I learned on, actually. I am working on my second IHS scarf, currently. The pattern is also easy to memorize.
