The Morgaine

NOTES: Only one Icord used instead of the patterned two. In the future, pattern will be altered by doing only one row of eyelet to accommodate this change. Also, tassle will need to be redone as it is sorely in need of attention due to knitter needing some serious tassle making instruction. Cut her some slack though because this is her first tassle.

Your photography skills are stellar, my dear! Love it!! That tassle's not too shabby either- I too am under-skilled in the tassle making department. Does anybody know of a good tutorial on it?

I'm loving Morgaine! Which one's next?

I love the bag! It's nice enough to deserve being made in several colors.

There are several books out on tassel-making. There is one that I bought that is more common-sense than the rest. It has a lot of info on tassel-making packed into little space. Stuff that you won't find elsewhere. The rest of the space has info in complementary techniques, including turks head and other decorative knots, selentra braiding and more. You can make a tassel just by properly making a turks head knot.

I bought the book and haven't gotten to it in my unpacking, and don't remember the title or author. Sorry. You'll have to look at the library or bookstore.

The most useful hint from the book that I can think of is to use a hatrack to wind tassels. Use the kind that has slats that fold or open with a scissor action, and have a peg at each joint. I found an unfinished wooden one at Michaels (in the wood-to-decorate department) for $4.

Because it folds, you can expand the pegs until 2 of them are the right distance apart for your the length of your tassel

For spinners on the go, you can expand it completely and wind a skein on it, too.

Well, we're about halfway through the Harry Potter KAL that I was in the middle of when Em signed me up for this one. The first contest is over today.

So, now I'm throwing myself into the Mists of Avalon KAL.

The Movie has several people wearing ruanas, and they look very spiffy in them. Near the beginning, Morgaine wears a lavender one, and I've thought about making one ever since I saw the movie.

Just so we're clear, here, the last time I read the book was about ten years ago, and I saw the movie several times right after it came out, so the last time I saw that was in the summer of 2002. I don't have a copy of the movie, and I just got a copy of the book, but I'm in the middle of Harry's books.

Anyway, back to the ruana.

Although the people in the movie rode horses in them and did other active things with no problem, they always unwind for me, usually at the worst moment. Then they trip me up or fall off or do something else embarrasing.

So I decided to do a poncho instead. A poncho looks very much like the ruanas the way they were filmed in the movie, and won't unwind or bail out or do anything but sit there and look pretty.

I found a bag of four balls of lavender Red Heart Symphony in my stash, and cast on Saturday evening while watching Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets on TV.

The yarn has a mohair look and after wearing a few times will look very wild and unkempt. It gets a very rich look. This yarn has a navy blue core, and the fuzzy part is a soft lavender. The core shows a little here and there, and makes it look richer than if it was really a solid color. It also looks very Spring-like. I'm going to love wearing this one!

So far, I'm about four inches down from the neckline.

Sorry about making this a comment, but due to technology mismatches, I can't post on blogger.
